Ratified by United Nations Development Program in 1994, South-South (Beijing) Biological Technology Center (SBBTC) is the main implementing organization in the food and health sectors in China in terms of UN South-South Cooperation projects, one of the founding units and standing committee members of China South-South Cooperation Network, and also an international scientific research, consulting and training organization, which engaged in biotechnology research and application in food, international technical cooperation and exchange, new product research and development.

SBBTC aims at setting up an integrated network which includes scientific, technical, economic and managerial know-how in the biotechnology industry. We are:

l  To study the modes and approaches of South-South Cooperation for China food and health industry.

l  To build the South-South Cooperation information mechanism and platform for China food and health industry.

l  To execute research and development projects with cooperate partners.

l  To apply biotechnology to the food and health industry and to support key task research and development.

l  To train high level specialized professionals

By a cooperative, mutually-sharing and open business mode, SBBTC has established good project cooperative relations with lots of international organizations in the UN system, some developing country governments, and domestic & foreign universities and science and technology institutions. SBBTC has developed bilateral or multiple cooperation with more than ten countries in succession such as Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Senegal. It has not only undertaken and accomplished national and Asian-Pacific regional projects, but also organized and accomplished a series of South-South Cooperation activities as below:

l  To implement UN South-South Cooperation projects.

l  To promote the match-making of international projects under the frame of UN South-South Cooperation.

l  To provide the developing countries to China with policy consulting, market study and financial supports

l  To provide Chinese enterprises to the developing countries with policy consulting, market study and financial supports

l  To organize activities of mutual overseas visits between China and the developing countries.

l  To stage high level international cooperation trainings.

SBBTC will continue exerting its resource advantages and seek ways to cooperate with partners from developing countries in the fields of food and bio-pharmacy, so that the level of economy and technology in developing countries will be improved.

Milk Bioactive Peptide Technology

Pasture land is abundant in the east and west of Africa, which covers 80% of the whole area. However, because of grass dispersion and technological backwardness, it is inconvenient for mass milking and difficult to preserve and transport fresh milk, which restricts the development of dairy industry. Therefore, finding a way of processing the fresh milk in time will greatly promote the development of dairy industry in the east and west of Africa. The processing technology of milk-derived bioactive peptides is convenient and easy for preserving, which can meet the above needs.

At present, the bioactive peptide products cannot meet the demand for bioactive peptides in developed countries. The development of bioactive peptide products can promote exporting, increase national income, and stimulate the development of the local dairy industry.

The project (Milk Bioactive Peptide Technology) is to promote high-end milk industry development and enhance national physical quality in African countries. The target area of Implementation of this project is western China, eastern and southern Africa where milk processing industry is relatively underdeveloped. The project implemented a set of activities, carrying out technology exchange and cooperation on high value-added milk production between China and African countries, establishing the methods to produce high value-added milk in China, eastern and western African countries, to promote technological and economic cooperation between China and Africa. Specific activities including training of 30 milk producers, feasibility studies, research findings publishing, laboratory research, promotion and application in China, setting up demonstration plants in the participating countries, training in participating countries and ultimately determining the method of promotion in the participating countries.  The project will work with Kenya, Senegal and other countries to improve the technological content of milk products, and guide the healthy development of China-Africa milk industry to promote human health.

The project partners we work closely with are China Agricultural University, Egerton University Kenya and Institut De Technologie Alimentaive Senegal.
