"Joint Research and Training Center for Small Hydropower" Set up in Serbia

On October 30, 2019, the grand inauguration of China-Serbia "Joint Research and Training Center for Small Hydropower" and the Seminar on Low-head Small Hydropower Technologies were held in the University of Belgrade, Serbia. Dr. Sasa Lazovic, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia, Prof. Radivoje Mitrovic, Dean of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Belgrade, and Dr. Xu Jincai, Director General of National Research Institute for Rural Electrification (Hangzhou Regional Center (Asia-Pacific) for Small Hydro Power) attended and addressed on the event. 32 representatives from China, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and other southeast European countries participated in the relevant activities.The Seminar on Low-head Small Hydropower Technologies was conducted, focusing on the topics such as the Technology of Renewable Energy and Micro Hydro Power, Testing and Measurement Techniques for Hydraulic Machines, Water Turbine and Technical Refurbishment for Small Hydropower Plant, Low-head SHPPs in Extension of the Existing Agricultural Channel System of Danube-Tisa-Danube, etc.

On the Seminar, Prof. Xu Jincai gave a presentation about "The Technology of Renewable Energy and Micro Hydro Power", and discussed the research cooperation and capacity building of small hydropower technology between China and Serbia by combining the development trend of renewable energy technology and the micro hydropower development technology both in China and the world. Representatives also visited an irrigation channel on Danube in Kajtasovo and conducted on-site exchanges about the low-head hydropower development in the channel. Moreover, Prof. Xu and Prof. Milos Banjac, Vice Minister of Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia, exchanged views on the development of energy resources and hydropower in Serbia.
